  • The walk from Locarno to Tenero, pleasant and smooth, is one of the most popular of the tourists visiting Locarno. You start at the Schifflände and follow at first the lake promenade of Muralto, between flowerbeds and a beautiful Mediterranean vegetation. It continues - always along Lake Maggiore - to Rivapiana. It has some pretty frescoed houses and is characterized by the tall tower of the San Quirico church. "This is superbly located and accessible from the lakeshore by a signposted path. From Roman origin it still preserves some fresco fragments. Next to the church (on the west side) is the Villa San Quirico, a building from the thirties and now owned by the municipality of Minusio, in the middle of a beautiful park.Continuing along the lakeshore, you arrive at Ca 'di Ferro, an imposing building from the 16th century, with countless chimneys and barred windows, which served as a barracks. The walk continues to Mappo, to the community port of Minusio and where the extensive camping zone begins.Once there, you can walk to the train station of Tenero and take the train back to Locarno, or go through the underpass next to the large parking lot to the bus stop. But you can also run back the same way again. Along the way there are two good restaurants with wonderful panoramic views: Giardino Lago and l'Approdo.ticinotopten.ch/de/wanderungen/seepromenade-locarno-muralto-minusio

  • In the ARD media center there is - as part of the well-known WDR series "Wonderful" - a great travel report about Lake Maggiore; "The region around Italy's second largest lake is known as the 'Gate of the South'. With Mediterranean vegetation and botanical gardens, Lake Maggiore is embedded in a breathtaking mountain world. Judith Rakers discovers a vacation paradise that combines water sports on the lake and hiking in the mountains." This link takes you to the film:
