Way of the Cross Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso
If you walk up the Stations of the Cross from Locarno, you need about half an hour. There is also the option of taking the funicular from Locarno train station, which runs from there every 15 minutes to the Madonna del Sasso. Above is the church building, surrounded by palm trees and oleanders. Upon entering the interior of the church, one immediately notices that the interior has been preserved in its original state, as can be seen e.g. can be recognized by an altarpiece of the Madonna from 1480. Many of the more than 400-year-old figures have also been preserved in the Madonna del Sasso. The interior of the church with a low ceiling is bathed in a mystical light. The votive tablets and paintings depicting the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt are also very impressive.
