The western section of the Finow Canal between Zerpenschleuse and Liebenwalde is called Langer Trödel. Trödel or flood was the name of the first Finow Canal between Liebenwalde and the Finow near Schöpfurt as early as 1609. The name junk is a play on words made up of treideln and dawdling (strolling, being slow).
