Probably the oldest ferry in Germany still in operation. Quite rustic. When I arrived at the shore, the ferry was still in the middle of the river. The ferryman then called to me if I wanted to cross the river. On my YES he has started the engines and I could enjoy a single ride for 50 cents.

According to Wikipedia, the Altrheinfähre Mannheim is the oldest functioning ferry in Germany and connects the district Sandhofen with the Friesenheimer island across the Mannheim Altrhein away.
The ferryman is always in a good mood and having a little chat. We have never had to wait a long time here, as it is usually translated as needed.

The ferry leaves only until 30.09 then you have to take a detour over the Altrhein bridge
On the other side is the restaurant Dehus with various game dishes or even freshly caught fish.

The Altrheinfähre built in 1897, pulled on a chain, runs on the Old Rhine between Sandhofen and the Friesenheimer island. A must for anyone interested in technology and fun for the whole family for only 50 Ct. per person (as of 2017).
The season is from late April to mid-October. Except Mondays, there is a rest day, she drives from 10 to 20 clock. Lunch break is from 13 to 14 o'clock. The ferry leaves: on the hour from the Friesenheimer island and half an hour from Sandhofen (at peak operation certainly more often)

Small but nice ferry with a ferryman who knows the people and gives his expert commentary on everything. When the weather's hot, his wife sprays the passengers off with a hose, and arrives very well.

What else is there to say? It is nice to drive by ferry. The ferryman is also mentioned by me. He has been on the ferry for 10 years and he knows half the world 👍

Nice connection from the Friesenheim island in the direction of Worms. Unfortunately, the ferry operates only on specific dates. So check in advance, otherwise there is the detour via the Altrhreinbrücke.

Have used the ferry several times. It's easy to get to or from Mannheim without car traffic. Nice ferryman and a restaurant on the south bank. Hopefully many more crossings and the historical part will be in operation for a long time.
