Here, the canal bridges the Schwarzach Gorge. A very impressive structure. If you have time, you should take a short hike in the gorge. Children, in particular, have a lot of fun in the caves here.

Bavaria's King Ludwig I created an artificial waterway from Bamberg to Kehlheim in just ten years, connecting the Main and the Danube for the first time. On July 15th, 1846 the Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal was officially opened. With a length of 173 km, 10 bridge canals and 100 locks, this canal was an overwhelming achievement of the engineering art of its time. Today the old canal, the Brück Canal and the associated beer garden are popular destinations for families and those looking for relaxation.
