Directly on the Badersee lies the "Hotel am Badersee". There at the reception there is the possibility to rent a rowboat (30 min for 5 €). With this you go in search of the mermaid at the bottom of the lake. This is especially fun for the kids: o)
Here are a few facts about the mermaid: "In the lake, west of the island, is located on a boulder at about 5 meters deep, a life-sized sculpture of a mermaid. The art object was mounted there in the mid-19th century and can be well viewed from the boat The sculpture contributed significantly to the reputation of the lake, which allegedly bears the features of Lola Montez, the legendary dancer and lover of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. The mermaid can be seen very well in crystal clear water. It is also marked with a buoy. When we were there for the first time in the 90s and went over the lake with the rowing boat, I always made a bow around the rocks so that the boat would not "sit down". Only at home we have read that the rocks start in 3 meters depth - and the mermaid is probably even deeper: D: D: D
(The lake is probably up to 18m deep, if I remember correctly ... And we also visited the goldfish several times in the following years .. Only there was no komoot at that time ... So it's time for a Grainau again -Vacation...)
