In the 19th century, the initially small Jewish community in Kommern grew steadily. The surviving Kommern Jewish cemetery on Prinzenweg was established before 1838/1840 and occupied until 1937.
There is no sign or similar in the village. to the cemetery. The fenced, hedged and tree-lined cemetery is freely accessible via the entrance gate in Prinzenweg. At its entrance there is a board with extensive information about the place and its history. There are currently 60 grave sites (inspection on September 4th, 2020). A Jewish cemetery can be found in the district of KOMMERN, which belongs to the town of Mechernich. The youngest tombstone on this site is from 2006 for Eduard Levano, but he died in 1937 and at that unfortunate time he was denied a tombstone. The subsequent appreciation of his person goes back to a student initiative.
