At this point, which now houses the sprawling platform and seating area, an unlikely ugly concrete block stood as a restaurant until 2011, occupying practically the entire area. It was built in 1976, then extensively renovated in 2007. Only to finally demolish it in 2011. The inauguration of the "new" plateau took place in 2013.

The historic Drachenfels can be used by people who do not want to run up to the Dragon Castle or Dragon Rock on foot. It is worth to visit the castle and the rock. Below the Dragon's Rock, there is a good opportunity for retreat.
From the top there are beautiful views over the Siebengebirge, the Rhine up to the county.
From here, there are other beautiful opportunities on various hiking trails to the cottage, the Mount of Olives or Löwenburg to hike.

On the trail of a more than 100-year-old hiking trail, the Bergische Weg takes you 260 kilometers from the Ruhr area through the Bergisches Land and Siebengebirge nature parks to Königswinter am Rhein. The route awarded by the German Hiking Association as "Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland" runs from the Baldeneysee in Essen through the "neanderland", through the Bergische towns Wuppertal, Remscheid and Solingen as well as the Rheinisch-Bergisch circle to the famous Drachenfels.
Along the route you can expect a variety of experiences. Both the landscape and the cultural history of the way has much to offer: Idyllic landscapes and historic villages as well as homeland and industrial history museums, palaces, castles, monuments and churches bring the culture of the region to life again. The Neanderthal Museum, the Müngsten Bridge Park, the Altenberg Cathedral and the Drachenfels are just a few examples of the many attractions.
