The viewing platform Drachenfels is the main attraction of Königswinter. For hikers, the plateau is very interesting, accessible via the village of Röhndorf. Once at the top, you have a breathtaking view of the Rhine and distant surroundings. The less sporty can take the Zahnradbahn to the plateau in Köningswinter . You can take the train every thirty minutes.

  • At this point, which now houses the sprawling platform and seating area, an unlikely ugly concrete block stood as a restaurant until 2011, occupying practically the entire area. It was built in 1976, then extensively renovated in 2007. Only to finally demolish it in 2011. The inauguration of the "new" plateau took place in 2013.

  • The most climbed mountain of NRW. Which may keep one or the other from going up. The Steep rugged path on the Rhine side of the Rhöndorfer vineyard, is any case much quieter.

  • The historic Drachenfels can be used by people who do not want to run up to the Dragon Castle or Dragon Rock on foot. It is worth to visit the castle and the rock. Below the Dragon's Rock, there is a good opportunity for retreat.
From the top there are beautiful views over the Siebengebirge, the Rhine up to the county.
From here, there are other beautiful opportunities on various hiking trails to the cottage, the Mount of Olives or Löwenburg to hike.

  • Tourist attraction number 1 in the Siebengebirge. But there are plenty of quieter places in the Siebengebirge which are also worth a visit.

  • Great view from up there! Those who are not so fit on foot can also take the oldest still operating cog railway in Germany. Also a highlight.

  • The ascent to the Drachenfels plateau alone is worth seeing and can be mastered both on foot and by train. There are viewpoints of the Rhine and the surrounding area in various sections of the ascent. With good visibility you can let a wide view wander, which is very worthwhile 😊 From the Drachenfels plateau you can u. a. also use the entrance to the 2nd stage of the Rheinstieg 😋

  • "... The Drachenfels between Königswinter and Bad Honnef is 321 meters high and offers a unique view over the Rhine Valley. The ruins of Drachenfels Castle from 1167 are enthroned on the top. This place has always fascinated people and it has grown up numerous stories, legends and myths about him.The name appeared for the first time in a document in 1149. Among other things, a reference was made to the world-famous Nibelungen saga.
The trachyte was dismantled from the Drachenfels as early as Roman times. The Cologne Cathedral is the most famous building made of trachyte in Germany, which was removed from the Drachenfels at that time. A regulation from 1922 made the Siebengebirge one of the first German nature reserves on an area of around 4200 hectares. The area has the largest contiguous beech forest communities in the Rhineland and is an FFH area (according to the EU Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive). ... "
