The Winningmay-Reesholm nature reserve covers 120 hectares. Projecting into the Schlei, it is a peninsula that emerged from the last Ice Age. Reesholm and the offshore island of Hestholm have been a nature reserve since 1976, which is managed by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU). Most of the Reesholm peninsula is only about half a meter above sea level, which led to many overflows and created a valuable salt marsh landscape. Over time, such a wonderful world of flora came into being. Andel grass, salt aster, angelica, knapweed and spoonweed grow and thrive in Reesholm.
