The area that is used today by the Bernauer Brandenburg Clinic was the inner ring of the Waldsiedlung Wandlitz from 1960 to 1990. This is where the heads of government of the GDR from Walter Ulbricht to Erich Honecker to Egon Krenz and their consorts, such as Erich Mielke, lived. Willy Stoph, Otto Grotewohl and Hermann Axen also lived here. Everything that had rank and name was united here, completely isolated from the people and strictly guarded by the state security guard regiment.
