Although the palace was neither historically nor art historically of great importance, it is still worth seeing and a thoroughly worthwhile destination with great views of the central part of the island. The Achilleion is a much visited attraction. In the immediate vicinity there are several restaurants. Parking is available, but quickly full. The passing road is quite wide and in very good condition, so you can easily park at the roadside.Admission: 7 €
Opening hours: May - Oct. daily from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, off - season from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm.
The Achilleion was built on behalf of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi) in 1890 on the site of a Venetian villa.
The palace was styled after its favorite hero Achill from Homer's Iliad and in an antique Greek style.
After Sisi's assassination, the building stood empty for some time until it was bought by the German Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1907 and used as a country residence for the spring.
From 1962 it was a casino and served in 1980 as a backdrop for the James Bond film "In Deadly Mission".
From 1983 as a conference venue again in state ownership. In 1994 the circle closes as the Achilleion signs Austria's accession to the European Union.

Impressive holiday home of the Austrian Empress, which should be something above the financial resources of most Corfu travelers.
Very busy and one of the main attractions in Corfu.
Audio guides included in the price are available in all possible languages upon presentation of your ID card in the back left corner of the foyer.
From the garden great views of Kerkyra, the Old Fortress, the Pantokrátoras and the airport.
A few benches with outdoor tables in front of and behind the building. Outdoor toilets.

The Achilleion was built on the property of the famous Corfiot Petros Brailas-Armenis (a friend of Sisi's) after his death. It was named after Achilles, whom Sisi admired for his strength.

Update 04.10.2019: Admission 10 Euro. When we were there (Fridays), there were also many buses with crusaders, very crowded and the various tour guides were very loud palaver, so that you could understand from the audio guide almost nothing
