Hüle or Hülbe - more rarely also Hühle, Hülb, Hilb or Hilbe - is a common name in the Swabian Alb area for the ponds typical of this region. In the Franconian Alb they are called Hüll or covering (plural: cases). They either emerged from sinkholes or were created artificially; the waters were a basic requirement for the settlement of the karst, water-poor Alb plateaus.
