Fort de Botshol does not really look like a fortress. You only see an elevation in the landscape. The fort was never completed and bunkers were never built.

Fort in the Botshol is the only fort of the Defense Line of which the defensible earthwork from 1895 has been preserved. The weak peat soil around Amsterdam made it necessary to first reinforce the soil with large amounts of sand. Also unique is the bridge located behind the fort watchman's house, the center piece of which could be removed in times of danger.
Fort in the Botshol served to defend the access formed by the southern quay of the Botshol and the dry strips in the Noorder-Zuiderpolder.
