The main attraction of the reserve are the mineral springs and carbon dioxide (CO2) gas vents, the so-called mofettes. The mofettes look like small volcanic craters, no more than half a meter in size. Some of them emit gas with a hissing sound, while others bubble with water and mud (“false mud volcanoes”). When it rains, they fill with water, and when it freezes, ice crystal geodes, ice pyramids and columns form. In dry periods, the surfaces are riddled with cracks and covered with yellowish or white efflorescence of mineral salts.

A beautiful place that you should visit once in all four seasons.
It costs a couple of kroner to enter, you can pay in euros, but remember that you can only pay with bills and get the change back as kroner. Dogs are very welcome here. The moor is not accessible by bike, but can be parked on site. It's not a problem for children with a balance bike.

A rare and remarkable natural phenomenon in Central Europe are the so-called MOFETTES. They are formed by carbon dioxide (CO2) and mineral water flowing up from surface water and mud. This phenomenon is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a mud volcano. The escaping CO2 is a sign of declining volcanic activity. CO2 escapes through cracks in the granite sublayers and collects in the impermeable layers of tertiary sediments. The CO2 escapes through cracks in the upper diatomaceous earth layers and this creates small funnel-shaped depressions on the surface, about 10 - 80 cm wide.
