It is the oldest post mill in Grieben and the only one preserved. It grinded until the 1930s, after which it fell into disrepair. The remains of the mill were saved and it was started to rebuild properly in 2003, the result is an eye-catcher right on the Elbe Cycle Path.

Grieben still had three windmills, a smithy, a locksmith's shop until around 1930 - farming practices gave the village its character. A ferry, first mentioned in 1722, made the connection to the eastern side of the Elbe. The ferry connection was closed in 1953 and restarted in 1998.
