The globe is spanned by the repeated name Jūrmala in several spellings: Jūrmala - Юрмала - Jurmala.

The globe shows the twin towns of Jūrmala. The object from the 1970s was restored in 2003. Another restoration was required in 2015. The globe was dismantled in May 2015 and rebuilt on July 23, 2016 after restoration.

The Jūrmala Globe, a well-known landmark on the corner of Turaidas iela and Jomas iela, has an interesting history. Originally installed in the early 1970s near the Dzintari Concert Hall, it symbolizes Jūrmala's twin towns, which are highlighted on the map with glowing circles. The globe had been badly damaged by weather over the years and underwent extensive restoration in 2016. It was given a new supporting structure and the rotation and lighting mechanisms were renewed so that it can once again rotate on its axis and illuminate the twin towns.
