The church and church life in Frohngau can look back on a centuries-old tradition. The first documented mention of a church dates back to 1536. However, based on a church bell that is still in the church tower today and bears the year 1431, it can be assumed that a church stood in Frohngau even before the first documented mention. The architectural style of the church tower also suggests this. According to the monument preservation authorities, it was built in the late Gothic style and, according to entries in the church chronicle, in the Romanesque style. Both architectural styles were widespread in Europe between the 11th and 15th centuries. It is undisputed that the church tower is the oldest building in Frohngau.

Frohngau. Until 1802, Frohngau belonged to the parish of Tondorf. But then Frohngau and Buir founded their own parish, which was confirmed in 1804 by the then Boischof of Aachen, Marcus Antonius Berdolet. The patron saint of the church in Frohngau is St. Margareta, and the secondary patron saint is St. Barbara. Since 1955, there has been a St. Matthias Brotherhood, which makes an annual pilgrimage to the grave of St. Apostle Matthias in Trier. There are also regular pilgrimages to the "Michelsberg" (Archangel Michael) above Mahlberg, to the Ahekapelle in Engelgau (St. Servatius) and to the Hagelkreuz between Buir and Tondorf. In 2010, the Friends of the Parish Church of St. Margareta Frohngau was founded. The purpose of the association is to preserve the church's own objects and to maintain church traditions and customs. Members of the Friends of the Association have also agreed to undertake voluntary work. They work as leaders of the word service, readers (Holy Mass, devotions, prayers for the dead), communion assistants and in various sexton services. The members are also involved in the children's pastoral group. Palm sticks are made with pre-school and elementary school children, herbs are collected for the herb blessing festival and holiday days are organized.

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Margaret in Nettersheim-Frohngau (Frohngau-Buir parish) belongs to the diocese of Aachen; today the parish forms, with several other parishes, the community of St. Hermann-Josef Steinfeld. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret of Antioch, and its patron saint is St. Barbara. The church is a protected architectural monument.
