The parish consists of two parishes with five villages: Parish Heimboldshausen: Heimboldshausen, Röhrigshof, Harnrode and Unterneurode and parish Gethsemane. It has about 1,400 parishioners, two churches in Heimboldshausen (with a former fortified church tower, around 1300) and Gethsemane (new building in 1890) and a parish hall (Martin Luther House in Heimboldshausen).
Heimboldshausen is the oldest (approx. 740/800 AD) and largest village. However, the first finds of people in Harnrode date back to around 900,000 BC. BC! Gethsemane was founded in 1700 by immigrant Huguenots. Today the area is shaped by the potash industry.
