The city of Kiel has been working on a redevelopment concept for this former industrial area since 1989. To the north of the Hörn, the HDW shipyard with its characteristic gantry cranes is still located on the east bank. After the Norway terminal in 1997, the high-rise center at Germaniahafen and the Hörn Campus building on the front side of the Hörn were the first buildings to be built as part of the Kai-City project Kiel were completed.
