The monastery ruin is today the largest Romanesque church ruin in Europe. Already in the first half of the 19th century, the citizens of Hersfeld came up with the idea of staging events in the ruins. In the meantime, early film screenings are taking place. In the surviving east wing of the former monastery is now housed the Museum of the city.

Approximately 3 km east of Bad Hersfeld is Schloss Eichhof, built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th century, directly on the cycle path R 1. Worth seeing is next to the building itself still intarsia preserved space (so-called "Lutherzimmer") from the 16th Century. Otherwise, the castle is used as an office for a Hessian administration.
