A beautiful, well-kept baroque monastery complex with monastery garden, brewery and distillery. In the church you just stand and marvel at the splendor. The opening hours of the shop and café can be found here: kloster-ettal.de.

Ettal Abbey is a Benedictine abbey (Abbey of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary) in the village of Ettal in Upper Bavaria and belongs to the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation.
The abbey is about ten kilometers north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and southeast of Oberammergau. The Benedictine monastery, founded in 1330, is now a popular tourist attraction. The monastery includes farms, several inns, a hotel and a high school with an attached boarding school. In addition, an art publisher, a distillery and a brewery.
The central building was very unusual in structural terms when it was built, the High Gothic. The baroque redesign after the fire did little to change that. The original Gothic building is a dodecagon with a diameter of 25.3 meters, which is surrounded by a two-story cloister.

The convexly rounded facade of the church, which was only completed between 1894 and 1901, opens behind a cloister courtyard. Its seven axes, on which Zuccali's baroque dome rises, are framed by columns. The triaxial flanks have concave curves. They are crowned by two different towers, the northern one in 1853/1854 and the southern one in 1906/1907. A bell tower from 1563 stands south of the dome.
The monastery buildings of the 18th century were largely demolished. Most of the buildings that make up today's facility date from the 20th century. The interior of the rotunda looks very bright and colorful. It is structured by bundles of pilasters. Everything flows into the huge dome fresco by Zeiller from 1746. It shows the rapture and coronation of St. Benedict before the throne of the Triune God. Above the choir arch, a representation shows the scene that is said to have led to the founding of the monastery: St. Benedict appears to Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian and gives him the image of Mary.

This white marble statue is located in the tabernacle of the high altar. The altar painting by Martin Knoller depicts the Assumption of the Virgin, as does Knoller's painting above the high altar (1786). In the nave, six altars by Johann Baptist Straub are arranged in two groups, with the middle altar being particularly richly decorated. The paintings are by Knoller (3), Scheffler, Zeiller and Hermann.
