Tips

Great castle ruins, there is a lot to discover, everything is freely accessible. The location is great on this hill and yet in the forest.

Eberbach Castle consists of three separate castles, above the city of Eberbach.

The castle ruins can be reached from a forest car park on Neue Dielbacher Straße, or via a hiking trail from the center of Eberbach, the so-called Katzensteig.

It is believed that the front castle was built in the first half of the 12th century and the central castle, including the front castle, in the last third of the 12th century.

The rear castle was not explored until 1959–1963.

In his book "A Tramp Abroad", the American writer Mark Twain describes the castle ruins as strange but spectacularly announced because the boat operator on the Neckar linked them to a dragon saga.

From the front castle you have an impressive view over the city of Eberbach and the Neckar valley.

Great overview of the Neckar valley. Many "hidden" corners in the castle complex

Eberbach Castle is the complex ruins of three spur castles above the city of Eberbach. The Eberbach castle consists of three separate castles, so that one should actually speak of the Eberbach castles.

The place with the three individual castles is winding, so you can discover a lot here. Also very fun for children.
In the midst of the walls stands the Oswald Fuchs Hut - a spacious refuge that even has a fireplace with a fireplace.

Great castle ruins above Eberbach. Also suitable for a rest - the various sections of the wall offer plenty of opportunities to sit down.

A beautiful ruin, which extends over a larger area thanks to several buildings. Eberbach Castle consists of three separate castles, which were built around 1225 by the bishops of Worms.

The ruins of Burg(en) Eberbach, on the narrow mountain spur above the Neckar, are particularly beautiful. Some remains of the wall are well preserved and convey the typical castle feeling in small, delimited areas around a fireplace, under archways and ivy tendrils. There is also a free view over the Neckar.

well-preserved and signposted ruin. One of the ways there is sometimes difficult ... but worth seeing. Not suitable for prams

    Castle ruins worth seeing.
Good footwear and surefootedness are an advantage for the paths that lead up and down again

Unfortunately, the most interesting of the ruins was closed at Easter 2022. Nevertheless, you can enjoy the area. You come across these ruins directly when you either walk up the Katzensteig from Eberbach over the serpentines, or down the Katzensteig from Katzenbuckel.

A short hike, but it has quite steep and sometimes narrow paths in the forest. Wear walking shoes in wet weather. Very beautiful and romantic. We hiked on a Thursday and didn't meet anyone.
