The Lindenthal Eco-Pool of the Leipzig Sports Pools is a showcase project for sustainable local recreation and was opened in 1998 as Germany's first ecological outdoor pool – even before Lindenthal was incorporated into Leipzig in 1999. Instead of chlorine, aquatic plants and microorganisms ensure clean water, supported by a modern gravel filter system. The pool was created as an initiative of the municipality, which, following the South Tyrolean model, created a natural alternative when renovating the old outdoor pool became financially impossible. Today, the eco-pool offers over 5,000 square meters of swimming fun amidst water lilies, reeds, and a diverse range of wildlife – an important contribution to environmental education, biodiversity, and quality of life in northwest Leipzig.
This stop was created as part of the "Discover Green Corners - Leipzig's Northwest" tour by the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group.
