I visited this Shrine and stopped to look at the gravestones in a row. My father fought the last 5 days of the First World War in the Trenches of Valsugana, and every time he spoke about it, I was still a child, his eyes glazed over. Those boys fought in opposite Trenches and died by the thousands, on both sides. Sent there by the delirious fanaticism of the powerful.

There is a plaque at the entrance that says:

"The Tombs of the Fallen are the great preachers of Peace"
