A detour to the Kuttenteich is always worthwhile. Idyllically situated in the forest, it shows a different face in every season.

The approximately 6.5 km long Kuttenbach is a river and a right tributary of the Schwarzwasser on the outskirts of Aue-Bad Schlema. Its lower reaches in the Bärengrund after its only major tributary is also called Rumpelsbach.
The Kuttengrund is an old mining area; the last mine was closed in 1927. The Kuttenteich, built as an artificial pond in the 18th century, served as a service water reservoir for the vitriol works, the smelter and, from 1840, to supply the Kuttenzeche with impact water. The pond is 72 meters long and 52 meters wide, and its dam is five meters high. Today an educational mining trail leads through the valleys of the Kuttenbach and Fallbach.
