The green space of the Amberg city wall ring also includes the Maxplatz, which used to be part of the city fortifications. Around 1790, however, like all external fortifications, it was leveled. Since 1827, the much-loved Bavarian Elector Max IV. Joseph from Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld has bowed his head to the Ambergers. On January 1, 1806, he became King of Bavaria and consequently received another "number" in his name. From then on he was called Max I. Joseph. However, he made a decision that the Ambergers still make today in Mark: he moved the government of the Upper Palatinate from Amberg to Regensburg. And still: When the memorial was laid on February 16, 1824, the people of Amberg planted two oaks, which they named after the rulers Maximilian and Caroline. Max and Caroline passed away - the monument from Flossenbürger Stein, created by Heinrich Kirchmayer, still stands today. And another political issue: the two lions, who seem to watch the obilisk bored, come from Sulzbach. That is why the Sulzbachers are still disgusted to the Ambergers.
