The parish church of St. Johannes Baptist is also called Sauerland Cathedral. A first predecessor was built in the 9th century, this was expanded in the 11th century by the second building, around 1230 as a third building in the style of a three-cone system. The tower dates from around 1230, was increased in the 14th century and has been crowned by a baroque onion since the baroque period. It is considered the symbol of the city.
