The chapel suffered greatly during the Second World War when it was used as a storage room for artificial fertilizer. From 1973 to 1976, the masonry was renovated, among other things, during the course of which stained glass windows with local motifs based on designs by the Leverkusen glass painter Paul Weigmann were also installed inside in 1973 and in 1974 a wayside cross (erected in 1663) on the west side was previously located on the enclosure wall of Haus Schlesien. were set up. The chapel was recently endangered by rising damp. After preparatory work from 2000, comprehensive restoration of the Nikolaus chapel began in December 2006 with the financial support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection; the interior renovation was completed by April 2008, the overall measure in the following year and sealed with the ceremonial blessing on September 20, 2009. In the niche above the entrance on the north side there has been a statuette of St. Nicholas with a crosier and miter by the local sculptor Sigrid Wenzel since 2009, after the original niche figure was thought to have disappeared.

Chapel from the 12th century, assigned to the Schwarzrheinbach monastery, not to the Heisterbach monastery. Over the years and many changes of ownership, the building has suffered greatly.
