Bike Touring Highlight
The Celle Castle is one of the most beautiful castles of the Welfs, one of the oldest of the existing royal houses. First mentioned as a "Castrum" in 1318, the initially simple castle was rebuilt over the centuries to a lavish and magnificent four-wing complex and constantly expanded. Renaissance and Baroque are here a distinctive mix.
In addition to the Residenz Museum, the castle houses the oldest baroque theater in Europe, still in use today, as well as the castle chapel, the only church north of the Alps with completely preserved Renaissance furnishings.
