Heinrich Gätke (1814 to 1897) was a painter and an important ornithologist who was born in Pritzwalk and became known as a bird researcher from Heligoland. The "Heinrich-Gätke-Haus" (Hainholz nature reserve) is located on the outskirts of Pritzwalk. The facility consists of a natural history room with over 250 teaching specimens from brown bears to wolves to peregrine falcons and white-tailed eagles.
