Best Hikes to Bismarck Tower on the Taufstein

Tips

  • The Bismarck Tower was built in 1910 as an observation tower. The structure was built from blue basalt and stands on the highest elevation of the Vogelsberg volcanic region. Unfortunately, the tower is currently not accessible because its supports are rusty and the masonry is dilapidated. A major refurbishment is required before you can climb back up and admire the gorgeous panorama.

  • From the looks of things, the tower seems to have been left to its own devices... if something doesn't happen soon, it will be demolished... which would be a real shame

  • Seating with tables at the tower and at the baptismal font.
