A few meters next to the Bismarck tower lies the, in basalt lumps, Bonifatiusborn. According to legend, Boniface, the "Apostle of the Germans," preached here in the first half of the eighth century and baptized pagans with water from this fountain. Hence the name Baptismal font. Today, however, the spring no longer supplies water. Perhaps the hydrological conditions on the baptismal font were changed by the construction of the Bismarck tower. The stone enclosure of Bonifatiusborn is from the 19th century.

The Bismarck tower on the baptismal font was built between 1907 and 1910 by the Vogelsberger Höhen Club, the regional hiking club. From the 22 m high platform, it offers a wide view of the Gießener Land, in the direction of Knüll, to the volcanic peaks of the Rhön and to the Taunus. The tower is freely accessible all year round.

The baptismal font is the highest mountain in the High Vogelsberg at 773 meters ...
A few million years ago, the baptismal font was several meters higher, but the ravages of time gnawed at it. All the better is the block heap, which has since emerged. On the north and west slopes, the mighty boulders and rock formations are very beautiful to see.

Once you have left the narrow staircase behind you, the inside of the tower widens into width. A few steps up and you have made it to the supervisory platform. From there you have a wonderful distant view. Really worthwhile.

The baptismal font is 773 m above sea level. NHN the highest peak in Vogelsberg. It is located near Breungeshain in the Vogelsberg district in Hesse. Despite a remarkable dominance of 43 km and a notch height of 406 m, the baptismal font is hardly noticeable as a single mountain, since it emerges only slightly from the overall survey of the Vogelsberg. The Bismarck Tower, completed in 1910, stands on it.
