The Sundial is a natural karst cave 26 meters long. It was actually used as a timepiece in the past. The farmers working in the surrounding fields were able to tell the time from the sun's rays in the cave hall. On such a hiking day, time is of little importance, but the incident light is still nice to look at.

A very nice Kraxelei, but the passage through the sundial should not be left out.

The mighty portal of the Schelmbachstein cave, which is also called the sundial in the Schelmbachstein, can be seen from afar. Spectacular how the cave opens in the slope.

In the huge hall you will even find a bench carved into the rock. And at the end a narrow exit that leads up over some rocks. This takes you to a doline, which is more like a rocky valley in size. It is precisely here that the sundial in the Schelmbachstein owes its name. Because in this sinkhole the farmers used to be able to tell the time based on the position of the sun. You have to know that the area used to be much less wooded than it is today. Most of the area was used for agriculture. So that the rock formations were visible from afar.
