The small canyon system and the associated hollow stone cave is still one of the most significant caves in East Westphalia. In the cleft system of marl limestones of the Upper Cretaceous it was already explored in 1779. However, with only a few exceptions, it remains denied access to the public today, as it is designated as a natural monument and wintering quarters for bats. And that's just as well.

With sturdy shoes and a little bit of fitness, it is easy to wander. Tip: Shortly before entering the gorge, go left over the cliffs, descend to the Bielsteinhöhle and then either back in the Schluchtgrund or on opposite hills back to the starting point.
