The unwooded Struffeltkopf rises at over 450 m between Rott and Roetgen, which is already marked on historical maps as a heather area in the middle of a wooded area.
Many rare plant and animal species live in this unique biotope. The pipe grass is typical of the Struffelt. The long stalks with the purple-gray ears were previously used as pipe cleaners, as the knot-free stalks did not get stuck in the pipe neck when pulled through. Wooden walkways ensure that the high moor of the Struffelt nature reserve can be crossed with dry feet.
The hike leads through the water supply area of the Dreilägerbachtalsperre. Numerous boards explain the special features of the hiking landscape and from the viewing platform there is a great view of the dam wall of the dam.

Probably the most beautiful section of the first stage of the Eifelsteig. Just nice to hike in the late fall over the boardwalks of the Struffelt.
