In 1155 the castle was first mentioned in a document by a "Sigefridus de Anstele". In the middle of the 12th century, a family named "de Anstele" was named as the owner of the castle. From 1209 they called themselves "Knights of Anstel" and after 1270 only "Knappen".
In 1371 the Archbishop of Cologne enfeoffed the squire of Anstel, Heinrich mit dem Barte, with the castle, who later called himself "von Anstel".
Around 1400 the castle was bought by Heinrich von Siegenhofen, whose family owned the castle until the male line died out and whose descendants sold it to Theodor Jochemich around 1911 and has remained in the possession of the Jochemich family to this day, who converted it into a baroque residential complex in 1722 unchanged building stock.

There is a moated castle here.
The moated castle houses a riding company.

THE WASSERBURG ANSTEL - First mentioned in 1155

The oldest secular monument of the municipality Rommerskirchen is the Wasserburg Anstel.
Already in 1155 a document of a "Sigefridus de Anstele" is reported.
The castle suggests the appearance of the former plant. About 1000 built square or rectangular residential towers.
Such a stone residential tower is contained in the castle Anstel, but externally not visible.
