According to the naturalist Louis Lavizzari, one of the first explorers of the Ticino mountains in the 19th century, the Pizzo Leone (1659m) is considered the guardian of the "Ghridone". The mountain is a good destination in all seasons, even in winter for snowshoeing or ski touring. Ideal are late-spring or autumn.
On the Pizzo Leone you will be treated to a magnificent view of Lake Maggiore, the Prealps and the Alps. Color range extends from intense blue of the lake to the lush green that covers large parts of the mountains. In the background one discovers the white snow curtain of the Monte Rosa as well as the Valais mountain range. Further afield, from Verbano to Cannobio and Luino. The Centovalli with its picturesque villages is embedded in a beautiful landscape.
