The Lichtenegg castle ruins are believed to be a medieval aristocratic castle above the Lichtenegg village of the same name. The castle was first mentioned in a document 700 years ago. The castle ruins are freely accessible at all times, and the visit is free. The ruin has belonged to the municipality of Birgland since 1998 and is being restored with private funds, among other things. There are showcases with found objects in front of the ruins. When the weather is nice, you have a magnificent view, for example as far as the Fichtel Mountains. Be sure to enjoy the view. There are also tables and benches there to rest.

When you have discovered the hidden way up, it is not far to the ruin

The castle was first mentioned in the Nuremberg Reichssalbüchlein more than 700 years ago, but is probably much older. At times it belonged to the Reichsvogtei Nuremberg and changed hands frequently until it was destroyed in the 15th century. Since 1998 the facility, which is now owned by the municipality of Birgland, has been restored, also with private funds.

The castle ruins are freely accessible at all times. From here you have a view from the Upper Palatinate Jura, part of the Franconian Jura, to the Fichtel Mountains.

You can already see the castle ruins from the edge of the forest. A visit is worth it
