The building, originally erected at the foot of the Kreuzspitze in 1876, was modeled on Hunding's dwelling in the first act of the opera "Walküre" from the "Ring des Nibelungen". The Hundinghütte was destroyed by fire in 1884, and was rebuilt a few months later in the same place and in the same form. In 1945 the building caught fire again. A replica was built in 1990 in the Linderhof Palace Park.
