This column testifies that the Bärenstein was one of 158 stations of the "Central European Triangulation" in 1864. During the Royal Saxon Triangulation, the land in Saxony was surveyed between 1862 and 1890 and, at the same time, a trigonometric grid was created that would serve as the basis for accurate maps. The column, which had fallen over for years, was re-erected in 2005 about 25 meters south of its original location.

"The Royal Saxon Triangulation (here with the historical proper name) is a land survey carried out between 1862 and 1890 on the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony with simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network."

Stamp of the Stoneman on the Bear Stone. After the steep ascent, you can first take a deep breath and enjoy the view from the observation tower and look at this survey point.
