Cistercians in Ebrach: The location of the monastery was spatially effective in Ebrach and the surrounding area for almost 700 years. Founded as the first Cisterce to the right of the Rhine in 1127, it quickly picked up speed under the founding Abbot Adam. In 1151 the Staufer King Konrad III creates. With the donation of the "Upper Steigerwald" the material basis of the monastery, 4000 hectares of closed forest area around Ebrach. This means that the use of this area was determined for 650 years, no scatter calculation, no driving of cattle. The monks used the forest for their everyday use, to expand the monastery complex and from around 1700 high-quality oaks and pines were sold to Holland by raft on the Main. But that was limited, because the transport to the Main was not easy.
