If you are in MEran, you should definitely make a detour to Trauttmannsdorff Castle:

Trauttmansdorff Castle is located on the eastern edge of the city of Meran in the Burggrafenamt (South Tyrol) and is home to the Touriseum. The castle is located in the middle of the botanical gardens of the city of Meran, the "Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle", which were opened in 2001. The castle became famous, among other things, through the spa stay of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth (today, a signposted Sissi path leads from the Meran spa promenade to the botanical gardens). The area has an area of 12 hectares and a network of paths of 7 kilometers; the difference in height is 100 meters. The autonomous province of Bolzano is the owner and operates the State Museums.

Great view of Meran, Dorf Tirol and Schenna.

If you are on holiday in Meran or the surrounding area, you should not miss this hike, possibly in partial stages. It makes sense to start the Waalweg at the Töll-Brücke bus stop, because the opposite direction from Lana or Tscherms is uphill. It's easier to walk down. The approximately 10 km long Waalweg offers various places to stop and if you don't walk too slowly without a break, you can do it in 3 hours. However, since there are many explanations about the Waal and the flora along the way, and the wonderful views tempt you to linger and take photos, and the snack stations invite you to stop, you should plan a little more time. Dogs must be kept on a leash, which makes a lot of sense anyway, given the narrow paths that are sometimes crowded with many hikers, and not just for the dogs.
