Wilde Sau Memorial Cross (atonement cross)

The atonement "Wild sow" dates back to 1483. It describes a (accidentally) legend, a hunting accident in which a servant wanted to protect his master from a savage sow and killed him accidentally.The law then saw for the killing of his The executioner was executed, and the servant was executed in remembrance of this doubly tragic event.

The stone cross “Wilde Sau” is a stone memorial cross erected on a hill above the actual Rennsteig with the image of a hunter riding a sow, whom a hunting companion apparently tries to free from his uncomfortable situation by holding a spear.
This stone, set in Luther's birth year (1483), is the oldest dated stone on the Rennsteig.
