The Kreuzberg chapel, which stands above the Protestant church west of Pottenstein on a hill above the Püttlachtal, is actually a brick picture niche. It contains the complete crucifixion group with the crucified Savior, the painful Mother Mary and the two thieves who were executed with Jesus. The crucifixion group looks east towards the city of Pottenstein. This field chapel was built in 1725 and replaced a wooden chapel. Beneficiary Lehner wanted to expand it in 1775, but this was not realized. The sculptures date from 1688. The cross chapel serves as a prayer station during the pilgrimage to Gößweinstein and in the corridors.
