Beautiful place with many half-timbered houses, great for the Festival of Lights on January 6th. Fantastic valley view from the castle and the hillside/mountain paths.

The history of Pottenstein can be traced back to the first written mention in 918. The town of Pottenstein was Obervogtamt of the Bishopric of Bamberg. In a city fire in 1736, 60 houses were destroyed, the town church was damaged.
