The hall church from the 15th century, built of quarry stones and provided with corner stones, was destroyed in a fire in 1822. It was rebuilt in 1824–25. The church tower on the north side was only rebuilt in 1829–31. Its foundations date back to the 15th century (Wikipedia).

In the more than 250-year-old Lehesten Church of St. Agathen, formerly St. Aegidius, there is probably the largest slate ever carved in one piece in the anteroom. It was mined in the "Kießlich" slate quarry in 1872, is 308 cm high and 253 cm wide. This plaque is a memorial plaque in honor of those who fell in the Franco-German War of 1870/71.
The names of the 30 soldiers from Lehesten are recorded on it. The listed church was built in its current form in 1824/25. Before that there was already a church at this point, in which Dr. Martin Luther is said to have preached in 1530. In the Biedermeier style church, the altar, crucifix and the altar of the baptistery are made of slate, the characteristic material of our area.
