Bike Touring Highlight
Do you want to view a medieval wall house from the inside? That is possible at Museum Flehite. The museum in the center of Amersfoort is located in three wall houses, which were built around 1540. In the buildings you can find all kinds of traces of the residents and users who have lived or worked there for the past centuries. Ask at the desk for "Traces in the house" for an explanation of the construction history and discover old hearths and murals from a bygone era.As a city museum, Museum Flehite tells the history of the city through objects and paintings. The story of city carpenter Leendert Nicasiusz, for example, who managed to curb the fire in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe tower in 1651. An eye-catcher is a city chest from the 15th century. The box was made from a single piece of wood and provided with nine locks. In it, among other things, the proceeds of fines were kept and the silver stamp of the city. To prevent anyone from taking a hold of the chest, the keys to the chest were kept by several notables.Museum Flehite naturally tells the story of the Miracle of Amersfoort, about the statue of the Virgin Mary that worked wonders for centuries and made the city a place of pilgrimage and about Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, the statesman who played an important role in the history of the present-day Netherlands.vvvamersfoort.nl/nl/locatie/552830084/museum-flehite
