Bike Touring Highlight
In many places, riparian forests have become extinct because their original habitat has been drained. The forest in the Worringer Bruch has fortunately been spared this fate so far. It is therefore a retreat for rare plant species and a variety of animals.

The Worringer Bruch is a roughly 164 hectare, marshy flat landscape in the far north of Cologne. This is an approximately 8000 year old, almost completely silted meandering arch of the Rhine. The area is named after the immediately adjacent Cologne district of Worringen, which was once an independent city with a history spanning more than a thousand years (first documented mention 922).The Worringer Bruch is geographically the lowest point in Cologne at 37.5 m above sea level (the highest is at 118.3 m in the Königsforst). In 1991 the Worringer Bruch was designated as a nature reserve.
