Mountain Biking Highlight
This monastery ruin is one of my favorite places: A former Benedictine convent, of which only about 6 mtrs. high remains of the outer walls are well preserved.
The convent was dissolved around 1432/1440, buildings and goods remained in the hands of the abbot of Maria Laach.
Disputes between the districts of Leiningen -Westerburg and the Counts of Runkel prevented the restoration of the complex, which is increasingly exposed to decay. From the second half of the 16th century it was used as a quarry.
Since 1990, a development association has been looking after the preservation - a constantly open exhibition in the information center above the monastery ruin gives interesting insights into the history.
Very worth seeing and very idyllic!
