From 1965 to 1970, the Mödling Museum Association uncovered the remaining Romanesque building remains and had them secured. Since the castle is a popular destination for hikers, the city of Mödling renovated it and set up a tour with explanatory panels.

The Mödling castle ruins are picturesquely located in the Föhrenberge Nature Park and are one of the most impressive historical sites in the region. Originally built in the 12th century, it once served as an important fortress before falling into disrepair in the 16th century. Today, the well-preserved remains offer a fascinating insight into medieval history and are a popular destination for hikers. From the ruins you can also enjoy a breathtaking view of Mödling and the surrounding area.

The ruin was built in the middle of the 12th century. built and was the seat of the Babenberger. The dimensions are 175 x 80m. It was once the largest Romanesque castle in Austria. In the 16th century it was deserted and finally destroyed in 1797 by Freiherr von Penkler. From 1808, the ruin was owned by the Prince of Liechtenstein and was partly rebuilt (in the Romanesque sense). In 1848, however, she was devastated. Walter von der Vogelweide also spent a few years at the former castle.
