Just three years after Mödling was first mentioned on the market in 1343, the existence of a local courthouse, which was called Schranne in the Middle Ages, is attested here. At that time there were stalls in the arcades on the ground floor. This must have been a predecessor of the current building, as it was Duke Albrecht III. expressly approved the construction of the Schranne in a document dated May 26, 1374. This 14th century building with its massive walls and massive vaults has been preserved at the core of the building. The Schranne, the center of the Mödling market administration at the time, was severely devastated by the Ottomans in 1529. A reconstruction was then carried out, which still has an impact on the appearance of the building today.

The Old Town Hall in Mödling impresses with its historical charm. The forecourt exudes a medieval flair - a touch of times gone by invites you to linger and explore.

The town centre of Mödling is beautiful and worth a visit - from Vienna Meidling you can get there in just 15 minutes and have a leisurely coffee :)

The building was initially called Schranne, like the square. It assumes a Gothic and Late Gothic core in the 14th and 15th centuries, with an extension in the 17th century. The dendrochronological examination of the roof truss gave the year 1669. Modifications were made around 1700 and in the 3rd third of the 19th century. A pointed barrel vault from the end of the 14th/beginning of the 15th century has partially been preserved on the ground floor, the other barrel vaults and groined vaults are from the first half of the 16th century. The late Gothic shoulder portal had an iron plate door, which is located in the district museum. The town hall hall on the upper floor with a ceiling medallion with a stuccoed double-headed eagle was enlarged in 1900 and restored in 1988. In the basement there are former detention rooms.
